Manchester United vs Liverpool: The starting XI

by Sam Peoples

Ben Amos: David de Gea will probably be rested just to give Amos some game time. There were reports in Denmark that suggested Lindegaard had been injured and given that the Dane will likely leave the club in the summer, it makes sense to play Amos.

Rafael: The Brazilian is fit and ready to play so he should start against Liverpool. He returned too late to be fit in time for Manchester City but a cup game at home is the perfect way to introduce him back into the team.

Jonny Evans: Jonny is yet to feature under David Moyes and as long as he is fully fit, he will start. He needs the minutes.

liverpool-capital-one-cupNemanja Vidic: Ferdinand was sluggish against Manchester City and Moyes will want one of his first choice defenders playing as it is Liverpool, so Vidic will get the nod. He is looking back to his best now.

Fabio: It is games like this where Patrice Evra earns a much deserved rest and Fabio’s impressive performances so far this season should see him play ahead of Alexander Buttner.

Adnan JanuzajIt’s time for Januzaj to shine. He hasn’t featured since his debut against Crystal Palace but in the Capital One Cup, the kids usually get a run out. He’ll be eager to impress.

Michael CarrickCarrick probably wouldn’t have played if United had beaten City at the weekend but because we did, this game carries a bigger importance and Moyes will want the assurance of Carrick in the middle.

Tom Cleverley: His cameo performance against City was one of the few positives from the game and he will have played himself into a starting role against Liverpool.

Wilfried Zaha: We’ve had to wait until the end of September but Zaha should make his full United debut tomorrow. There will be a real buzz every time he has the ball because he is an exciting player.

Shinji Kagawa: Shinji is in desperate need of game time and United are in desperate need of some creative football. A game against Liverpool is the perfect way for Kagawa to regain his match sharpness.

Wayne RooneyIt was a real toss up between Rooney and Hernandez. I chose Rooney because of how good his current form is and the fact he missed the Liverpool game in the league.
