Carrick: Januzaj can be anything he wants to be

Michael Carrick has heaped praise on the performance of Adnan Januzaj after he inspired Manchester United’s 2-1 turnaround against Sunderland.

The 18-year-old made his full Premier League debut but instead of being overawed by the occasion, he put in a stunning man of the match performance to show why he is such a coveted talent.

And speaking after the game to Sky Sports, Carrick admitted that Januzaj has all the credentials to go right to the very top.

“We’ve noticed a big improvement with him and he looks a proper player,” he said.

“He had his chances in pre-season and he took his chances today. They were two great finishes and he won us the game.

“He has got so much ability and a great attitude. He can be anything he wants to be. It’s just a start for him. I’m sure he won’t get carried away.

“His first one was on his supposed weaker foot and the second volley was fantastic. We’ve got a lot thank him for today.”

Nobody could have expected Januzaj to have played so good but he now becomes only the second player in United’s history behind Ruud van Nistelrooy to score two goals on his debut – esteemed company indeed.
