David Moyes has expressed his delight at how well Manchester United’s youngsters are playing on their respective loan spells away from the club.
United have a host of youngsters on loan and Moyes highlighted the goalscoring exploits of Nick Powell, Jesse Lingard and Federico Macheda after their great starts (although Macheda has sinced returned to Carrington due to injury).
Speaking to MUTV, Moyes said: “It tells you about the back-up players we’ve got in the squad that we can allow these players to go on loan and they are doing well at their respective clubs.
“We have got a really good squad of players and there is a lot of competition for places.
“I’m delighted to see Nick, Jesse and Federico getting goals. It shows they are doing well, especially the young ones, as we’re trying to give them games and get them more practice so they are ready for the real big league when their time comes.”
Moyes is spot on that it shows how good United’s squad are that players like Powell and Lingard can have such an immediate and profound effect at Wigan and Birmingham respectively.
Loan spells are essential in the progression of any youngster and their importance cannot be underestimated. If the likes of Powell and Lingard can continue their fine form over the course of a season, they have every chance of coming back and earning a spot in United next year.
