Wilfried Zaha was given an opportunity last night with England’s Under-21s to showcase why he deserves to be given a chance by David Moyes and didn’t disappoint.
He played the full 90 minutes and laid on two assists in a performance that showed while his minutes have been limited, his confidence hasn’t dwindled.
The 20-year-old showed some lovely footwork as he cut inside from the left wing and flummoxed Lithuania’s defence before he fired in a low cross that Morrison slotted home.
In the second half, Zaha was the provider once again after a great run through the middle and his pass put Berahino through to score.
At times, Zaha tried too hard to make something out of nothing but he was always willing to run at Lithuania’s defender at every opportunity, which is something that United’s wingers haven’t done much this season.
Obviously, Lithuania’s Under-21s aren’t the sort of opposition Zaha could expect in the Premier League but there was a real pressure from him to perform because he knows he won’t get many opportunities in competitive matches, so he should be commended for what was a very good 90 minutes.
David Moyes has said that Zaha wasn’t ready for first team football yet but Zaha has done all the right things last night to show him that he is.
