Jesse Lingard has Birmingham loan extended due to brilliant form

Jesse Lingard will remain on loan at Birmingham City until at least December 14, the Birmingham Mail has confirmed.

The 20-year-old initially joined Birmingham on a one-month loan deal but because of how well he has done in the Championship, Lingard will remain there where it is hoped his fine form will continue.

Lingard has scored five goals in four appearances for Birmingham so far this season and has the best goals-to-minutes ratio out of any of their players as shown in a feature this week by WhoScored.

And speaking about him to Inside United this week, United’s Under-21s boss Warren Joyce admitted he was glad to see Lingard doing so well.

“It was an unbelievable start for Jesse,” he said.

“You could not write a script like that but I went to the game and he nearly scored five as he had another one destined for the top corner but the keeper made a great save.

“I am delighted for him. I felt confident he could play at that level comfortably and even above that as you feel he can play in the Premier League anyway. But he’s got to go out and play against men and that is vitally important in his development.

“He has had that though, two years ago, when he was an Under-19 but played a lot of games against men and won everything in the Reserves. So I’m pleased with his development over the last two years and am hoping he really kicks on now and makes a name for himself.”

Depending on how well Lingard does until the New Year, he could remain on loan at Birmingham for the whole season which would be a fantastic stepping stone for him in his path to becoming a first team player for United.
