Loan Round Up: Brilliant Bebe inspires triumph against the odds

by Tracey Germaine

Bébé (Paços de Ferreira) – Bébé played for Paços in their Portuguese Cup tie against Oliveirense. Bébé set up the first goal with a run down the left wing and a great cross to the back post which was finished by Jose Manuel. He was involved in the Beavers second goal as his volley was handled in the box and the penalty was handled by Manuel. He got a hat-trick of assists when he sep up Sergio Oliveira for Paços third. Paços ran out 3-1 winners despite going down to nine men.

Nick Powell (Wigan Athletic) – Powell had a really good chance to open the scoring against Blackpool with a header from six yards out but he missed the target. He once again played as a striker and looked lively as Wigan dominated the opening minutes. Blackpool were awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute which Tom Ince converted. Shortly after that Powell had another chance but again his header went wide. He was replaced by Grant Holt in the 58th minute. Wigan lost 1-0.

Marnick Vermijl (NEC Nijmegen) – Vermijl played the full match in NEC’s 1-1 draw against Heracles. NEC took the lead after just 90 seconds and even though they were reduced to ten men in the first half, they looked as though they’d held on for the victory. Unfortunately Heracles equalised in the 87th minute. NEC sit bottom of Eredivise.

Jesse Lingard (Birmingham City) – Lingard started on the left side of a front three for Birmingham against Leeds after he had his loan extended until December 14. He created Birmingham’s first chance at goal when he played Chris Burke through but his effort went wide. Chances were rare for the Blues after that. Leeds took advantage and were 3-0 up at the break. Birmingham improved slightly in the second half but were unable to get back into the game and conceded again. Lingard tried to find a consolation goal but his right footed shot from the right side of the box was blocked.

Davide Petrucci (Royal Antwerp) – Petrucci recovered sufficiently from his injury to be included in Antwerp’s squad for their match against Westerlo. He came on in the 80th minute as Antwerp were beaten 2-1.

Angelo Henriquez (Real Zaragoza) – Henriquez started for Zaragoza as they took on Deportivo La Coruna. Zaragoza took the lead through Victor with around 15 minutes to go. Unfortunately Zaragoza conceded late on and had to settle for just a point.

Ryan Tunnicliffe (Ipswich Town) – Tunnicliffe played the full match in Ipswich’s 1-0 loss to Burnley. He had a shot blocked in the opening minutes. Just before the break, he teed up Cole Skuse 20 yards out but his shot went narrowly wide. That loss leaves Town in 11th spot, seven points behind the play off positions. There seems to be a growing number of calls for Tunnicliffe to get a few games in central midfield to help provide a bit more balance to the team.
