David De Gea has quashed any rumours that he is going to leave Manchester United this year by stating he is happy at the club and isn’t thinking about moving anywhere.
The 22-year-old has started this season exactly where he finished the last one in fine form and strong rumours had started in Spanish newspapers that Barcelona are after him because Victor Valdes will leave the Nou Camp at the end of the season.
Instead of letting the rumours continue, De Gea rubbished any possibility that he is unsettled at United after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and Eric Steele when asked after the game against Real Sociedad yesterday by Spanish reporters from AS.
He said: “I’m very happy here at United, everyone’s looking after me, treating me well. I’m not thinking of moving anywhere else”.
Given how much he has grown, it was obvious that Barcelona were going to come sniffing around De Gea who is likely to become Spain’s number one in the future but for now.
It is almost inevitable that De Gea will return to his homeland at some point but right now, he is happy in Manchester and that is all that matters.
From a United point of view, it is fantastic news. He has become one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League after he transformed himself from a shy, flapping youngster into a dominant, controlled goalkeeper in the space of 18 months.
