Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann has revealed that Manchester United have scouted him over the past few years.
The France Under-21 international was one of Sociedad’s trickiest players last night and nearly scored for the Spanish club with a wicked free-kick that crashed back off the post with David de Gea beaten.
On a big occasion at Old Trafford, he was relatively composed which is typical of the modern Spanish footballer and speaking to Sky Sports before the game, Griezmann revealed that United had shown interest in him before.
“In the last few years some English clubs have looked at me and Man United is on that list but that does not influence my work,” he said.
“I have always focused on Real Sociedad and done my best in each match.”
Griezmann scored 11 goals and had three assists in 33 appearances for Sociedad last year in an impressive season where they finished fourth in La Liga and was one of Sociedad’s most dangerous outlets at Old Trafford.
United’s scouts are always working to bring in the most talented youngsters and while our interest may have been serious before, we now have plenty of wingers in the side and if Wilfried Zaha can’t even get a game, it is unlikely that Griezmann would be brought into the team.
