Evra reveals truth about leaving Manchester United and admits he loves the club

Patrice Evra has moved to quash rumours he told Telefoot that he was going to leave Manchester United at the end of the season.

In an interview with the French media outlet, he was quoted as saying ‘personal reasons’ meant that no contract had been agreed thus far, which led to widespread speculation he was on his way out but speaking to MUTV, Evra said he merely meant he didn’t want to talk about his future and that the quotes had been misconstrued.

“The problem with me is I don’t read the papers so I don’t know what people are saying about me,” he said..

“I had a French interview and I said: ‘It’s personal’ meaning ‘I don’t want to talk about it’.

“Maybe some people [outside] want me to leave the club but that’s not the case.

“I will answer if somebody wants to talk about my contract because I think it ends after this year but then they have to talk with Manchester United and my agent. Me? I love this club so much.”

Evra’s decision to respond to the rumours is an indication that he has no intention of leaving so long as the club wants him to stay. Moyes this week came out to praise Evra and his loyalty to the club has never faltered so he certainly deserves a new contract.

He loves the club. He gets United. Moyes needs to keep that sort of presence in the squad if he can but he may still feel that now is the right time for a new left back to be brought in.
