Manchester United vs Norwich City: Predicted XI – It’s Zaha time

by Tom Newbold

Anders Lindegaard – After David Moyes recently suggested the Dane would get adequate game time this season, this League Cup tie is one of his opportunities.

Rafael – Although bizarrely not used against Stoke at the weekend, that decision may indicate a probable start on Tuesday evening for Rafael.

Chris Smalling – Moyes has not been shy of using Smalling this season and is clearly a fan. A start in his preferred centre-back position may be in the offing.

Nemanja Vidic – The Serbian captain may return to the team on Tuesday, particularly in the possible absence of stand-in captains Patrice Evra and Wayne Rooney. It would be an ideal opportunity for at least one of him or Rio Ferdinand to return to first-team action.

Alexander Buttner – Used in the Capital One Cup third round, Buttner can expect another start as Evra is given a rest.

Tom Cleverley – Cleverley’s return from injury against Stoke at the weekend saw a mediocre performance from the midfielder and he will be looking to regain form and fitness with another start against Norwich.

norwich-lineup2Antonio Valencia – He impressed at right-back when brought on against Stoke and is in line for a start against Norwich.

Wilfried Zaha – Since the Community Shield, Zaha has been unlucky not to be handed any first-team minutes but this could change against Norwich if Moyes decides to select him, most probably on the right hand side of midfield.

Anderson – The Brazilian has seen minimal game time in recent weeks, so Moyes will is likely to select him on Tuesday.

Danny Welbeck – If Welbeck has recovered sufficiently from injury, he will be involved against the Canaries.

Javier Hernandez – A goal against Stoke on Saturday and a good performance against Real Sociedad last Wednesday mean another opportunity is in the offing for United’s Mexican hitman.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

With Larnell Cole and the Keane brothers in Under-21s action tonight, it means the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Adnan Januzaj could be the youthful representatives in United’s league cup squad, with at least one of them expected to start.

Moyes is set to rest first team players such as Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Patrice Evra and Michael Carrick but in truth, a League Cup tie XI will always be hard to predict.
