Zaha: Bit rusty but glad to get my first start for Manchester United

Wilfried Zaha felt that his performance against Norwich City was rusty but admitted he was glad to finally get his first start for Manchester United.

The 20-year-old had waited since the Community Shield in August to get his competitive debut under David Moyes and on a night where he knew full well he had to take his opportunity, he did exactly that.

Zaha took to his official Twitter account to give his own thoughts on the performance but we thought he did great on his full competitive debut, maybe we had some red tinted specs on.

All sorts of things would have run through his mind given how long he had waited for the opportunity to play so Zaha was far from his best but he really did play well. To see a winger run with the ball at a defender with pace is so refreshing to see. United haven’t had that for a long time.

Now that Zaha has got over the hurdle of making his first appearance under Moyes, it is simply a case of proving to Moyes that he is ready and able for some Premier League action.

Moyes previously used the excuse that competition for places was what kept Zaha out of the team for so long but there is no way he doesn’t deserve a chance ahead of others now.

Nani was terrible against Stoke at the weekend, Young was poor against Norwich and Valencia is terribly inconsistent. Competition wise, there isn’t much when it comes to the form of others.

A tough away game against Fulham and a home tie at table topping Arsenal may be too big for the 20-year-old but rather than shipping him out on loan untested, Moyes needs to give Zaha the platform to prove himself first.
