David Moyes has confirmed that Danny Welbeck has returned to training after a knee injury so will not travel with the squad to Fulham but Robin van Persie, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are all in line to start tomorrow.
Welbeck hasn’t featured since Southampton while Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic have both been sidelined with niggling injuries for the past three Premier League games. They returned against Norwich in midweek and it sounds like Moyes is ready to use the experienced duo at Craven Cottage this weekend.
“He’s [Welbeck] trained for a few days so he’s getting much closer to match fitness,” Moyes said.
Moyes may have said said that Van Persie is fit to play against Fulham but United should not risk him with his ongoing toe and groin troubles, especially with Javier Hernandez eager to get a start in the Premier League.
“Manchester United have always had a big squad to choose from. I’ll continue to rotate the players at the right times.”
Chicharito has scored three goals in two appearances this week and deserves the opportunity to start in the league.
“He had a hard summer (travels with Mexico) but he’s started to do what he’s done over the years -score goals,” Moyes said about Hernandez.
Moyes also gave an update on Darren Fletcher’s situation and while he was happy to see him back playing with the Under-21s, he won’t be rushed back into the first team set-up.
“We don’t want any setbacks so we’ll take our time but it was great to see him back playing again,” he said.
