Loan Round Up: Powell’s scoring form continues, Bebe dislocates collarbone and Blackett makes debut

by Tracey Germaine

Nick Powell (Wigan Athletic) – Powell played the full 90 minutes of Wigan’s 2-1 win over Huddersfield. He was playing as one of three behind the main striker, a tactic which had him involved in good attacking play.

This gave Powell an early chance but he fired his left footed shot over the bar. He had another chance just after the second half kicked off but dragged his shot just wide. It was Powell’s loss of possession, when he slipped on the wet pitch, that led to Huddersfield’s goal through ex-United youth player Oliver Norwood’s effort being deflected into the Latics’ net.

However, Powell more than made up for it when he nabbed what proved to be the winning goal. He found himself in lots of space on the right side of the box, pounced on the ball and powered home over the Huddersfield goalkeeper.

That goal is his fifth of the season for Wigan and Owen Coyle has revealed the reason behind his impressive goal-scoring form:

“Every day at the training ground he steals my cans of Irn Bru, telling me that with each can he takes he’ll pay me back with a goal! To be fair he’s come up trumps on a few occasions so I’ll have to make sure I’ve got plenty in during the season!”

Marnick Vermijl (NEC Nijmegen) – Vermijl played the full match for NEC as they took on FC Twente. He showed his attacking side with a shot early in the first half but it went just wide. The match ended 2-2.

Tyler Blackett (Blackpool) – Blackett was handed his debut for Blackpool less than 24 hours after his loan move was confirmed. He started for the Tangerines as they took on Nottingham Forest way from home. He had a few nice touches and helped keep a clean sheet.

Angelo Henriquez (Real Zaragoza) – Henriquez picked up a yellow card as Zaragoza suffered a 3-2 defeat to Elbar after a late goal. Elbar went 2-0 up in the first half but Zaragoza pulled a goal back just after the hour. Moments later Henriquez had the chance to equalise but his shot went just wide. Zaragoza did manage to draw level but Elbar regained the lead with just ten minutes left on the clock.

Ryan Tunnicliffe (Ipswich Town) – Tunnicliffe played 82 minutes of Ipswich’s 1-1 draw with Barnsley. He didn’t have the best match on the left wing and fans are calling for him to be played in central midfield.

Bébé (Paços de Ferreira) – Bébé started Paços’ 0-0 draw against Arouca. The Beavers dominated the game and managed to keep their first clean sheet of the season. Bébé was unfairly challenged by Nuno Coelho, who was red carded for the offence. He was substituted with a dislocated collarbone in the 81st minute as a result of the foul.

Jesse Lingard (Birmingham City) – Lingard wasn’t in Birmingham’s match day squad this weekend as he was still ruled out through injury.

Davide Petrucci (Royal Antwerp) – Petrucci was an unused sub in Antwerp’s 1-1 draw against Roeselare.
