Danny Welbeck, Jonny Evans, Rafael and Michael Carrick have all been left behind by David Moyes and will not take part in Manchester United’s game against Real Sociedad tomorrow.
Carrick has not recovered in time from an achilles and calf injury, Welbeck is still struggling with a knee injury while Evans and Rafael have been left behind with a back issue and ankle ligament damage respectively that they suffered against Fulham at the weekend.
It is good that all they have been left behind in order to try and recuperate in time for Arsenal’s trip to Old Trafford this weekend, especially Carrick given his importance to United. Up against a red hot Arsenal on Sunday, not having Carrick in the side will be a massive blow.
The same goes for Rafael who United have struggled to replace in the starting line-up while Evans has also been in impressive form since his return to the line-up and Moyes will have to make full use of his squad for Sunday.
Robin van Persie has travelled after he returned from injury to play the full 90 minutes against Fulham but with United only needing a win from the final three games in the Champions League group stage to reach the magic ten points, David Moyes may be better off giving him a rest ahead of Arsenal especially with Javier Hernandez’s frustration at a lack of playing time.
There is no doubt that Moyes will have one eye on the Arsenal game this weekend and his team selection may reflect that. His pre-match press conference is at 6pm tonight where he could give an indication as to what team he will play.
