Adnan Januzaj‘s agent Dirk De Vriese has admitted that fatigue is the only thing that can hinder the 18-year-old in his first full season of first team football.
The youngster has played the full 180 minutes in United’s last two matches and De Vriese is concerned that Januzaj may suffer from burnout if he is continued to be used so much without a break.
De Vriese also echoed David Moyes’ sentiment that Januzaj must get better protection from match officials as teams have realised what he is capable of and are throwing two or three defenders at him to try and stop him.
Speaking with Jens Cuypers for VoetbalNieuws, De Vriese said: “He can take criticism, but he is no flash in the pan.
“The only thing that can happen to him now is a backlash of fatigue due to the matches in rapid succession.
“In the League Cup he played ninety minutes and a few days later against Fulham.”
Moyes has indicated that Januzaj may make his Champions League debut today and that he is not currently concerned by fatigue as the 18-year-old has shown no signs of tiring but with a huge Premier League game against Arsenal on Sunday, it could be asking too much of Januzaj to play four games in 12 days.
However, Moyes will know full well about the problems that burnout can cause and over the course of this season, will hopefully make sure that Januzaj gets time to recover in order between appearances.
