PICTURE: Januzaj is all smiles with Player of the Month trophy

Adnan Januzaj has been named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for October to put a crown on what has been a brilliant breakthrough month for him.

The 18-year-old received 42% of the vote ahead of Wayne Rooney (34%) and David De Gea (24%) and it was a richly deserved award.

His brace against Sunderland threw him into the limelight and he followed that up with a Champions League debut against Real Sociedad plus two more match winning performances against Stoke City and Norwich City.

“I’m really pleased to win this award, especially as it is voted for by the fans, who have been very supportive of me. So, thank you for voting for me,” he said.

“It’s good to be recognised for your performances on the pitch but I realise that I have to work hard and keep progressing as a player. I will try to contribute to the team whenever I play and hopefully play my part in a successful season.”

Few would have expected Januzaj to have the impact he has had at such an early stage but the youngster is already one of the first names on the team sheet for many.

The fact that he was rested for a Champions League game ahead of a crunch Premier League tie against Arsenal speaks volume of that progress and with a level head on his shoulders, this should be the first trophy of what will hopefully be a silver laden career.

Well done Adnan.
