VIDEO: United scouts won’t be impressed by own goal from ‘new Buffon’

by Sam Peoples

Earlier this week, Livorno’s president confirmed that Manchester United send scouts every week to watch 21-year-old goalkeeper Francesco Bardi in action.

Compared with a young Buffon, Bardi is highly rated by many but he had a howler against his parent club Inter Milan tonight when he scored an own goal in the San Siro.

He tried to smother a drilled cross but instead spilled the ball and it dribbled over the line to give Inter the lead. Nightmare. On top of that. he could have done better for Inter’s second goal as well.

Given that he has aspirations of becoming Inter’s first choice goalkeeper in the future, it was the worst possible scenario for him to be in.

On what was a huge occasion for him back at his parent club, Bardi had a nightmare and United’s scouts wouldn’t have been too impressed but David de Gea has shown that adversity can help make you stronger in the long term. Bardi will just have to try and learn from his mistakes.
