Saidy Janko had to wait a couple of months for his first Manchester United appearance following a deadline day transfer from FC Zurich because of a work permit but he has gone on to make an immediate impression at Carrington.
For someone so young, the 18-year-old has got fantastic strength and a natural ability to run past a defender with the ball. His performance against Everton last week showcased exactly what he is all about.
He gave Everton’s left back a torrid time all afternoon with his sheer pace and strength but what Janko also showed at points was a deft touch for an intelligent pass. He isn’t all brawn. It looks like he has got the brain to match it too.
Since being given his work permit, Janko has played for United’s Under-18s, Under-19s and Under-21s already which goes some way to show that he is very highly regarded already.
United don’t have a natural back-up to Rafael in the first team squad and if Janko can continue to progress as fast as he has so far, there is no reason why David Moyes might not give him a chance in a League Cup match before the end of the season.
