Manchester United have made €50m Real Madrid winger their top January target

Manchester United have singled out Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria as their top target this January according to Spain’s Mundo Deportivo.

Reports claim the arrival of Gareth Bale has rocked Di Maria’s boat and that United are willing to fork out €21 million to secure his services, a figure which goes some way short of his €50 million release clause.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a string of appearances this season but the return to fitness of Bale will now limit his game time and David Moyes is prepared to offer him an exit strategy this January.

Di Maria already has a small place in the hearts of United fans after he rejected a move to Manchester City from Benfica when they met his release clause back in 2010 and he is certainly a talented winger. However, his reputation for going to ground easily is far worse than Ashley Young‘s and that is something that he would bring to Old Trafford.

David Moyes has already admitted that Wilfried Zaha cannot get any game time because of the stiff competition for places on the wings at United, so adding Di Maria’s name into the mix would limit his chances even further but on his day, Di Maria is unstoppable.

Whether Moyes does want to follow through with a bid for Di Maria remains to be seen but one thing is for sure – Di Maria will have a lawsuit on his hands at Madrid if he keeps using Bale’s trademarked celebration in Spain.
