William Carvalho moves a step closer to Manchester United transfer

William Carvalho’s proposed move to Manchester United has taken a step forward as his current club Sporting are looking to secure full ownership of the player.

Carvalho has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months and Portuguese based Record believe that a deal could now be closer than ever before, as originally spotted by Sport Witness.

According to Record, due to Carvalho’s growing reputation Sporting have begun to look into the possibility of purchasing the 40% stake in the player, currently controlled by BES.

If the Portuguese club were to seal a deal to gain 100% of the player, it would certainly make things much easier for a transfer to be arranged due to the complicated nature of third-party ownership.

The Premier League have strict rules regarding third-party ownership and Moyes would have to purchase the full 100% from either a singular or both parties.

United have experience dealing with such a situation during Carlos Tevez’ time in Manchester and are unlikely to want to go through such drama again.

Carvalho only signed a new contract in the summer which contained a release clause of €45m but due to securing a regular place in the starting XI, is expected to be offered a new deal at the end of the season.

He made his international debut in Portugal’s 3-2 victory over Sweden in mid-week in a result that secured World Cup qualification, coming on from the bench in the 73rd minute.

The 21-year-old will be hoping to retain his good form in order to secure a move to a big European side and potentially make a play for a spot in Portugal’s World Cup squad next summer.
