Manchester United suffer big Robin van Persie blow as he has been ruled out according to reports

Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic have both been ruled out of Manchester United’s clash against Cardiff today according to reports.

The Dutchman pulled out of the Netherland’s international friendlies this week in order to get a rest ahead of United’s busy festive schedule but it looks like it wasn’t enough time for him to recover the niggling groin and toe injuries that have blighted his fitness for a while.

As well as van Persie, Vidic is reportedly being rested with our tough away trip to Germany against Bayer Leverkusen in mind. Moyes indicated that Vidic would be fit enough to play against Cardiff after recovering from concussion he suffered during the Arsenal game but playing two games in three days is a risk with Vidic.

Michael Carrick is already ruled out through injury so losing both Vidic and van Persie would be a real blow as they are three of our elder statesmen in the side and make up the spine of the team. Also, looking at it from a long term perspective, the last thing David Moyes will want to do is risk injury to either

It would be better to leave the duo out of Cardiff than risk playing either if they weren’t 100% knowing that they would be susceptible to being injured. It isn’t a risk worth taking.

United have the strength in depth to cope with injuries such as these and December will be the major test when it comes to how our squad can cope with the demands of a playing in multiple competitions.
