Moyes hails Rooney after Tottenham performance and admits contract talks haven’t yet started

David Moyes hailed Wayne Rooney‘s form this season after his brace earned Manchester United a point against Tottenham Hotspur today and intimated that contract talks with Rooney will happen when the time is right.

The 28-year-old’s current deal expires in 18 months but now that his hunger has returned, he has become one of United’s most influential player so far this season and has been reborn under Moyes.

In the summer, Rooney’s future was one of the most talked about topics that eventually concluded with him staying at Old Trafford and Moyes insists he is happy to move on from what happened, pointing towards renewed talks at a later stage this season.

“He played well again. He deserves the adulation he’s getting,” he said.

“He’s playing well, scoring goals, when the moments come, he’s taking them. He was very good again today.

“His performances have been great and he’s worked incredibly hard.”

“I think we’re fine just moving on from the summer and I think it will get done in due course.”

Rooney was unsurprisingly named man of the match against Tottenham with a landslide 89% of the vote and it is fantastic to see him back playing like he used to for United. There were worries that we may had already seen the best of Rooney a few years ago but now that he has found that spark again, he is unplayable.

Keeping Rooney at the club this summer was a challenge that Moyes passed and his next step is to try and get him to sign an extension that could see him finish his playing career with United.
