Robin van Persie effectively ruled out of Newcastle game

David Moyes has admitted he doesn’t know when Robin van Persie will return to action and that he is not ready yet.

The last match Van Persie played in was Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford but since then, we have gone on to draw two and lose one Premier League game.

In the build-up to the last two matches, Moyes was vague in his assessment of Van Persie who he said ‘had a chance’ of being ready to play but he has changed his tact now, which suggests he won’t be ready in time for Newcastle on Saturday.

“I don’t know [when Robin will return],” Moyes said after the game.

“We’ve been trying to get him back for a few weeks.

“But he is not ready yet. It’s khis groin. It’s a sore groin injury and nothing desperately serious.”

United haven’t struggled to score in his absence having netted nine times in the past four games but we missed his hold-up play and general presence in the side.

We missed that clinical edge against Everton last night and with Wayne Rooney now suspended for the Newcastle game, the onus will be on Javier Hernandez to step up to the plate with Danny Welbeck misfiring.

Moyes is right to not rush Van Persie back into action too early as it will cause more harm than good but with no time frame on Van Persie’s return it is impossible to judge when he will be back and United have missed him, so hopefully it is sooner rather than later.
