William Carvalho’s rise in Sporting Lisbon’s side this year has been fantastic and he continued his fine form tonight with a dominant performance in Sporting’s 2-0 win over Gil Vicente tonight.
The 21-year-old was named Sporting’s most promising young talent in 2013 and played the full 90 minutes despite being on the wrong end of a horrific tackle that the perpetrator saw red for which could have ended his season, but he shrugged it off and continued as Sporting went to the top of the table for the first time in nine years.
His place in Sporting’s side has only come as a consequence of financial problems at the club forcing youngsters into the first team but he instantly caught the eye of clubs around Europe and Manchester United have scouted his phenomenal progress since October.

“I hope we can get first but we play the game until the end of the Championship,” he told A Bola after the game tonight.
“The team has been good and has won the game. Many people five months ago had no confidence in this team but we have that now from the players to the staff.”
Sporting’s president Bruno de Carvalho has admitted there can always be ‘inputs and outputs’ ahead of January and A Bola believe €15 million will be enough to prise him away from Sporting due to their financial troubles despite his €45 million release clause.
There is no doubt that Moyes will be looking to midfield reinforcement this January and if a burgeoning midfield talent is what he is after, he need look no further than Carvalho.
