Five first team players missing from Manchester United training this morning

Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Chris Smalling, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic were all absent from Manchester United’s training session ahead of the game against Shakhtar Donetsk tomorrow.

Moyes sounded positive about the fitness of Fellaini and Smalling in his post match comments on the pair but it looks like neither of them will feature in the crucial last group game of the Champions League.

Also, both Evra and Vidic completed 90 minutes at the weekend but were absent from training today and it is unknown as to whether that was simply to allow them more time to recover or because of injury problems.

In better news, Shinji Kagawa returned to training after overcoming his strange stomach pumping scenario that ruled him out of United’s clash against Newcastle at the weekend.

Carrick is yet to make his full return but encouragingly, Darren Fletcher had no problems coming through a complete session as he continues his road to recovery. The more training sessions he successfully completes, the closer Fletcher gets to a return to first team action and it would be a real boost to United’s midfield to have someone of Fletcher’s experience back in the squad.

Moyes will be giving his pre-match press conference very soon so we will have the full team news as soon as it is available.
