Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez has confirmed that the club has not received an offer for Angel Di Maria as speculation continues to surround his future in Spain.
Reports in November suggested that United made Di Maria their main transfer target but even if that was the case, David Moyes has yet to make a formal move for the Argentinian winger according to Perez.
The 25-year-old has found himself out of favour in Spain and could be looking to move away from Madrid in order to find regular playing time ahead of the World Cup, but no team has registered an offer yet.
“He has a contract in place until 2018 and many clubs want him,” he said according to FourFourTwo
“We have not received any offer for the sale of Angel di Maria. This is the truth of this subject.
“These are things that do not happen but are written about.
“Nobody has told me anything about this situation, I have asked the club if someone has approached us and nobody knows anything.”
However, his agent Eugenio Lopez told Radio de la Red that many clubs wanted to sign Di Maria but that there was a ‘presidential angle’ which complicated any deal from being completed, hinting that the president may be blocking a move.
He said “He has a contract in place until 2018 and many clubs want him.
“There is a presidential angle to this but I will not talk about it.”
Di Maria has faced stiff competition for a spot in a Real Madrid that is typically littered with talent but even more so since the arrival of Gareth Bale. As such, he has struggled for consistency and in ten La Liga appearances, he has only scored one and assisted two other goals.
However, his form in the UEFA Champions League has been outrageous. In four appearances, he has got three goals and five assists which is either a goal or assist every 45 minutes in European football – a phenomenal return, especially for a winger who finds himself in and out of the team.
United are certainly in need of a natural winger and Di Maria ticks all the boxes in that respect but at a reported release clause of €50 million, is he worth that kind of money?
Do you think Manchester United have placed Angel Di Maria as their top transfer target this year?
