Adnan Januzaj shows he is better than Cristiano Ronaldo was at United aged 18

Adnan Januzaj and Cristiano Ronaldo comparisons are going to be very common over the course of this season and his career.

The 18-year-old has been one of the shining beacons for Manchester United in a tumultuous Premier League campaign so far and already, he has been compared to a young Ronaldo, so comparisons with the world’s best players are happening for Januzaj already – and it isn’t hard to see why.

But at this stage of his career, Januzaj isn’t just getting comparisons with Ronaldo, he is better than he was at that age.

When Ronaldo arrived at United, he was a greasy haired and raw 18-year-old. When Ronaldo left United, he was the world’s best player. All that happened within six years.

In his first season, Ronaldo scored six goals in 40 appearances and left most of the Premier League’s defences in knots with his mesmerising quick feet. Take a look back at just how raw he was back then.

In terms of natural talent, both Januzaj and Ronaldo possess it in abundance but it is mentally where Januzaj is on another level. He already gets what it takes to play football at the top level and it is his decision making ability which is one of his most striking features at 18.

Januzaj knows the right pass to do and when to do it and what run to do and when to make it. So, because of this, Januzaj is already a game changer. For all of Ronaldo’s talent, he wasn’t a game changer straight away – that was something that came over time.

Ronaldo went on to score six in his debut season and Januzaj is already on three before December, so there is no reason he can’t top him in that respect either.

There really are plenty of founded comparisons between the two gifted teenagers but the background of Januzaj and the foundation his father built for him may well be why Januzaj has every chance of becoming an even bigger legend at United than Ronaldo is.
