Nemanja Vidic’s agent confirmed to Radio Crc that Manchester United have offered a contract extension to the Serbian but admitted that currently a new deal will not be agreed.
The 32-year-old recovered from his injury troubles this season to become a regular starter for United once again but his contract expires in the summer so he could leave for pastures new, especially after his agent’s comments placed doubt over his desire to sign a new deal.
“Vidic, given his contract situation, has several teams looking at him,” Silvano Martina told Radio Crc.
“Napoli? At the moment there has been no contact.
“Thanks to the management of [President] De Laurentiis and [sporting director] Bigon, they are one of the best clubs in Europe.
“Vidic is a very good player and will have no trouble finding a new club. For the time being we are remaining calm.
“However, at the moment, I would rule out an extension with Manchester United.”
Of course, United cannot do anything but offer him an extension as he will be a free agent in the summer which means he can open preliminary talks with clubs in January.
Vidic might be 32 but there is every chance he could have a couple of years left in him at the top level. You only have to look at the performance of Rio Ferdinand last year to realise that sometimes players are dismissed too early in their careers.
There is a distinct possibility that United could lose so much presence from the dressing room this summer in Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra – would it work against the club?
