Wayne Rooney has no qualms with David Moyes’ decision to send him abroad for some warm weather training and believes it is the right decision to help him overcome his injury.
As soon as the announcement was made, comparisons were drawn to his warm weather training from back in 2010 when he clashed with the club over a contract but he has taken to his official Facebook page to try and cool speculation before it has the opportunity to build.
He said: “Agreed with the manager and the medical team that some warm weather training and recuperation would help this niggling injury I have been trying to play through.
“Gutted I am not available for selection tomorrow, but sure the lads will give everything to get the right result. As I said earlier today the crowd can help the team’s confidence massively so hopefully everyone will get behind the lads and stay with them and the manager throughout the game.”
This is a very smart move from Rooney in that it will ease an unnecessary pressure on Moyes surrounding Rooney’s future at the club. The press will still likely run with it as the main focus of his warm weather training but Rooney has made it clear he agrees with Moyes’ decision which will help quash the speculation.
The last thing United needed was to have Rooney missing for our now crucial game against Swansea this weekend but if this break gets him back 100% fit, then it is definitely the right thing for United to do.
