Fabio Coentrao will complete his loan move to Manchester United in the next few days, according to Real Madrid’s ex-director of communications and now AS journalist Joaquin Maroto.
The Telegraph have also ran the Coentrao story in their paper edition tomorrow and it looks like United may be able to secure the 25-year-old in time for him to be part of the match day squad to face Chelsea next weekend.
David Moyes made a deadline day bid to sign Coentrao on loan from Madrid and the deal only collapsed because Madrid were unable to sign a replacement in time but Coentrao will complete his move this week.
Coentrao’s arrival would be perfectly timed as Moyes confirmed that Patrice Evra had to be substituted today because he is suffering from an ongoing knee problem which means if he does arrive early next week, he could make his debut against Chelsea.
A versatile player who is just as comfortable at left back, left wing or even central midfield, Coentrao would be a very smart first signing by Moyes in January. His attacking style of play perfectly suits Moyes’ preference to have overlapping fullbacks providing the natural width to United and his arrival would be a very good start to the January window.
