Nemanja Vidic’s agent has dismissed rumours that he has signed a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona or Galatasaray, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The 32-year-old is unsure as to whether he will sign a contract extension at Old Trafford this year but Silivano Martina has refuted claims that Roberto Mancini’s Galatasaray are close to signing him.
MEN’s Rob Dawson spoke to Vidic’s agent this morning and he said that reports of pre-contract agreements with Barcelona and Galatasaray were ‘news to him’.
Due to his contract running out in the summer, Vidic is free to open negotiations with other clubs this January if he wants to seek a move elsewhere.
The Daily Mail claimed that Mancini had offered Vidic a lucrative cash heavy deal to join the likes of Wesley Sneijder and Didier Drogba in Turkey but even if that offer did come in, no deal is close to being agreed according to his representatives.
Can you really afford to let Vidic leave when he does things like this? http://i.minus.com/iV7dVcBlRainq.gif
United are in a tricky situation with Vidic for a couple of reasons. On his day, there is no doubt that Vidic is still a world class defender but he is nowhere near as consistent as he was before injuries plagued him and if he wanteod to get a bumper pay cheque right at the end of his career, he could do that with Galatasaray.
With Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans already in the squad with other centre back arrivals expeccted, the biggest loss if Vidic was to leave this year wouldn’t be his presence on the pitch but his presence off of it.
United could potentially lose Vidic, Evra and Ferdinand in one summer. Can we afford to lose that much charisma in the dressing room? We’d still have the likes of Giggs, Carrick and Rooney but none of them are real leaders in the same that Vidic is. Time will tell if our captain is going to leave this year or whether Moyes will offer him a one year extension to keep him at the club.
