Cagliari sound desperate not to lose Davide Astori to Manchester United

Cagliari’s director of sport Nicola Salerno has insisted that David Moyes did not go to Italy in order to watch Davide Astori last weekend.

Moyes sat in the stands as Cagliari were swept aside 4-1 by Juventus and reports suggested he was there to take a look at 27-year-old centre back Astori.

Following the game, Cagliari’s coach Diego Lopez admitted he was worried that Manchester United would sign Davide Astori in January but Salerno has since stated that United did not show any interest in the player.

“No, Moyes was not here for that reason,” director of sport Nicola Salerno told calcionews24.

“He wasn’t there for one of our players, as we did not have any contact with Manchester United.”

It’s a bit strange for Salerno to come out on the defensive so swiftly after Lopez admitted he was worried about losing him and it sounds like Cagliari are desperate not to lose Astori to United.

Of course, Moyes may well have been watching Juventus’ players rather than Astori and both The Times and Daily Mail believe that we have made put out some feelers in regards to summer moves for Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal.
