Nick Powell (Wigan Athletic) – Powell played the full match at the weekend as Wigan beat Bournemouth 3-0. Wigan went into a early lead through Fortune. Powell almost set up Callum McManaman to double the lead four minutes later and then flicked a chance over the bar from close range. Powell had some more efforts but couldn’t manage to get on the scoresheet.
Powell started on the bench for Wigan for their FA Cup Third Round replay against MK Dons. He came on at the hour mark in what was described by those watching as a ‘game-changing’ substitution. When he came on Wigan were trailing 1-0. He put Wigan back on level terms in the 78th minute with a right-footed close-range effort. That goal brought the match to extra time.
Then, in the first minute of extra time, Powell scored his second goal. He was looking for his hat-trick when he had another attempt just two minutes later but that effort was saved. Fortune put the result beyond doubt with Wigan’s third goal and they held on for a 3-1 win. Wigan will face Crystal Palace in the Fourth Round.
Tom Lawrence (Carlisle United) – Lawrence played the full match for Carlisle as they lost 4-0 to Leyton Orient. Orient dominated the opening stages of play but Carlisle responded with a good spell. A flick from Guy stretched Orient’s defence, Lawrence arrived late but Baudry managed to keep him at bay. Lawrence had a chance from a long range freekick but it went wide after ricocheting off Brad Potts. However, there weren’t many chances for the Cumbrians as Orient scored four goals. Lawrence prevented Orient adding to their tally when he cleared Baudry’s header off the line.
Ryan Tunnicliffe (Ipswich Town) – Tunnicliffe played the full match for Ipswich as they lost 3-1 to QPR. He had a good performance particularly with his work rate in the first half.
Tunnicliffe also play the full match of Town’s FA Cup Third Round replay with Preston North End. Tunnicliffe saw a long range shot go over the bar after 15 minutes. Town took the lead but just ten minutes later Preston were in front with Joe Garner scoring two goals. Ipswich fought back to level the scores but Joe Garner completed his hat-trick for Preston in the 87th minute to seal victory.
Michael Keane (Derby County) – Michael played the full match for Derby as they took on his former loan team Leicester. Michael didn’t have the best match as he saw his side concede four goals. He wasn’t helped out by the Derby midfield who pushed forward to get back into the game as it left the defence a bit more exposed than it otherwise would have been.
Marnick Vermijl (NEC Nijmegen) – Vermijl played in two friendlies for NEC recently as they returned from their winter break. NEC narrowly lost the first game against Mainz 3-2. They won the second game against Werder Bremen 1-0, to leave NEC in good form before the return to league action.
Bébé (Paços de Ferreira) – Bébé played the full match of Paços defeat to Academica. Paços conceded after just ten minutes but then fought back to regain control of the match. José Manuel equalised for the Beavers before Bébé scored his second goal in two games. Paços were comfortably in control at this point but things changed at the start of the second half. One minute of defensive errors meant that Paços were 3-2 behind. They couldn’t find their way back into the game and Academica rounded off a 4-2 win with a goal 15 minutes from time.
Angelo Henriquez (Real Zaragoza) – There has been no update on Henriquez’s medical status or whether he has returned to training. However, he was not involved in the squad for Real Zaragoza’s most recent match.
