Subsequently, Manchester United have been linked to a host of players including (but not limited to) Juventus duo Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba, Paris St Germain’s Lucas Moura and Napoli’s Marek Hamsik.
However, when questioned about the purpose behind his trips to Europe this week by reporters, Moyes insisted trips like this are not always about scouting players.
“I just enjoy watching football,” he said.
“I want to enjoy watching football all over the world. I try to get to as many games – that’s my style.
“I’m not always going to games to sign players – I’m sometimes going just for more knowledge and watching what’s going on. So I’ve done a wee bit of globetrotting over the last few days.”
While Moyes may well be telling the truth in that some trips he does take are not for scouting, I find it hard to believe him in this situation.
There is no way Moyes would travel around Europe for three days in the week leading up to a critical Premier League fixture against Chelsea just for some knowledge. That would make little to no sense. Moyes is simply being coy.
Anderson is close to joining Fiorentina on loan which will free up a space in the 25 man squad United are allowed in the Premier League. If Moyes had no intention of filling it, then letting Anderson leave would have been a rather pointless venture from the club’s perspective so I fully expect some movement in the coming two weeks from United.
