David Moyes and Phil Neville have flown to Germany today in order to watch Bayern Munich take on Borussia Monchengladbach on what could potentially be another scouting mission.
They were pictured by a fan who got a snap with them presumably at the airport on their way to Dusseldorf at 3pm. That doesn’t mean anything with our Juan Mata deal other than that Moyes must be confident a deal is going to be completed otherwise he wouldn’t leave for Germany.
Of course, there is every chance that Moyes is not there to watch any play from Bayern or Monchengladbach.
Sources close to the club suggest that United are interested in a swap deal with Borussia Dortmund for Ilkay Gundogan with Shinji Kagawa going the other way. Dortmund is less than 60 miles away from Dusseldorf and it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that Moyes could be meeting with representatives of Gundogan but that is a pipe dream. Although, the thought of Mata was also a pipe dream until this afternoon.
Of course, today Kagawa’s agent moved to quash speculation he was going to leave United but anything can happen in football.
One thing is for sure – there is no way that Moyes and Neville would fly to Germany on a day where United were negotiating a club record transfer deal if it wasn’t for a really important reason. Hopefully, that reason involves buying a central midfielder.
