Juan Mata hasn’t kicked a ball as a Manchester United player yet but he has already had a real impact on the club.
All season, pundits and the press have insisted that United’s fear factor had left when Sir Alex Ferguson walked out the door. If that was the case, it’s returned on Spanish steroids.
Why would Manuel Pellegrini and Arsene Wenger throw their toys out of the pram if they did not fear us? You can never count United out and with an added impetus that Mata has created, our confidence should get a real boost.
Without a ball at his foot, Mata has already injected life back into our season. It’s cliché but United’s season starts now.
As for the players, they will be given a massive boost by the arrival of such a world class player like Mata. Take a look back at our recent performances where we have lost five out of six games in January – limp performances included losses to Swansea and Sunderland. Mata’s arrival has the ability to change all of that.
There’s a certain expectation that comes with being any club’s record signing – instant impact. I have every confidence Mata will do that and so must David Moyes otherwise he wouldn’t have splashed out so much money to sign him in January.
Like Robin van Persie before him, Mata’s arrival could get the winds of change in motion again and by the early reaction his signing, it looks like they might already be in motion.
