The 25-year-old is in line to make his debut for United tonight against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Cardiff City and in his first press conference yesterday, Mata said all the right things in all the right ways.
He was so articulate in his responses and singled out United’s never give up mentality as one of the main attractions for him . He gets United already before even kicking a ball and the fact his father cited childlike excitement as Mata’s emotion towards the move only fills me with even more confidence he is going to fully deliver on his £37 million price tag.
Back when he signed for United, Robin van Persie listened to the little boy who was screaming for Old Trafford and that worked out quite well for him.
He said: “I always listen to the little boy inside of me in these situations – when you have to make the harder decisions in life. What does he want? That boy was screaming for Man United.”
Boyish excitement and a genuine buzz for becoming a United player mean that Mata has got the foundation to get his career at Old Trafford off to the perfect start.
It isn’t just Mata who is excited like a little boy because never has a midweek game against the bottom side in the Premier League been eagerly anticipated so much – Mata’s created that excitement for us.
