Moyes reveals his ambitious plans to sign the worlds best players

David Moyes has insisted that the arrival of Juan Mata is only the beginning of what will be an extensive and expensive rebuilding of Manchester United into a great side again.

Mata’s £37 million signing smashed our previous transfer record of £30.75 million set by Dimitar Berbatov but it is just the tip of the iceberg according to Moyes.

With plans to create a side capable of winning everything, Moyes is ready to invest heavily in order to make United one of the most feared teams in Europe once again, but admitted it wouldn’t happen overnight.

“The message this sends, as I said in the summer, is that we’re going for all the best players in the world,” he told The Guardian.

“Juan is one of those players. He’s a top Spanish player, a top Premier League player and I think if you asked any supporter, no matter what club they support, they would be an admirer.

“There will be more players like Juan in the future, no doubt about that. He plays for Spain, he’s played in big games already for club and country. I do see him fitting in and, hopefully, it doesn’t take him much time. But I also still think coming to Manchester United is a big change, for any player or any manager. It’s a big thing and he can’t solve everything.

“The message this sends, as I said in the summer, is that we’re going for all the best players in the world.”

“I’ve got a big job to do here and a couple of new signings isn’t all that is needed. I think there’s a bigger job to be done but you have to start somewhere. If you asked me what I needed most, I would have said a central midfielder. I could do with a left-back, too, but sometimes you don’t always get the pieces of the jigsaw at the time. It’s all part of a rebuilding process.”

Moyes was given a creaking United squad that was being held together by world class players like Robin van Persie, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney. Without them in the side due to injuries, the scale of how weak the squad was came to the surface and United were punished for it.

Everything Moyes is saying should be filling us all with confidence. United were poor in the summer transfer window but we learned from our mistakes with Mata in what was a well executed piece of business and if Moyes’ plans come to fruition, we could be at the start of another fantastic era for the club.
