A special day for Cristiano Ronaldo

by Sam Peoples

Today, Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates his 29th birthday to cap a year that saw him earn back his title as the world’s best player with his first Ballon d’Or since his 2008 trophy on the back of Manchester United’s Champions League triumph.

It is now five years since Ronaldo left United in an £80 million move to Real Madrid in Spain but his name is still chanted at Old Trafford and always will be because of what he did for the club.

When Ronaldo scored his first goal from a free-kick as an 18-year-old teenager, it was the beginning of a career that saw Ronaldo score 118 goals for United and he was part of a United side that dominated the Premier League for years.

From Ronaldo’s free-kick against Portsmouth to his howitzer against FC Porto or his Champions League final header against Chelsea, Ronaldo has scored so many memorable goals for United and although he isn’t coming back to Old Trafford just yet, there is still a burning hope that he might one day don the red of United once again.

Viva Ronaldo, Viva Ronaldo, running down the wing, hear United sing, Viva Ronaldo!
