Jack Barmby (Hartlepool United) – Barmby was an unused substitute in Hartlepool’s 2-0 win over Dagenham and Redbridge.
Charni Ekangamene (Carlisle United) – Ekangamene played 71 minutes for Carlisle in their 2-1 defeat to Gillingham. He helped Carlisle boss the possession in the middle of the park. Also had a volley on the edge of Gillingham’s area blocked just before half time but unfortunately for him, the ball fell to Gillingham whose counter-attack resulted in a goal. He was replaced by Redmond in the 71st minute.
Sam Byrne (Carlisle United) – Byrne came on in the 83rd minute with Carlisle losing 1-0 to Gillingham. A defensive error saw them concede another. However, pressure from the forward players including Byrne was rewarded when Gillingham’s Legge turned the ball into his own net. Byrne was unlucky not to nab the equaliser at the death but his header was blocked by the keeper.
Tom Lawrence (Yeovil Town) – Lawrence came on in the 83rd minute with Yeovil 2-1 down to Leeds. He didn’t have much chance to impact the game but did have a shot on goal blocked in added time.
Federico Macheda (Birmingham City) – Kiko continued his good form at Birmingham scoring both goals to secure a 2-0 win over Charlton. His first goal was a neat header from a corner to give the Blues the lead in the 22nd minute. Kiko’s second goal came as a result of another good assist when Tom Adeyemi won the ball and ran towards the Charlton goal. Kiko saw space open up on one side of the box, ran into it and received the ball from Adeyemi. He still had work to do and it was a cool, composed finish from the striker. He almost got a hat-trick but he wasn’t able to reach the Chris Burke’s ball across the face of the Charlton goal. He was subbed off in the 87th minute to a standing ovation from the Birmingham fans.
Tyler Blackett (Birmingham City) – Blackett was an unused substitute in Birmingham’s 2-0 win over Charlton.
Nick Powell (Wigan Athletic) – Powell is still out injured and wasn’t involved in Wigan’s squad for their loss to Huddersfield.
Anderson (Fiorentina) – Anderson played 56 minutes as Fiorentina won 2-0 against Atalanta. He had an attempt which tested the Atalanta goalkeeper. It wasn’t a great performance from him on his full home debut.
Wilfried Zaha (Cardiff City) – Zaha made his full Cardiff debut in the South Wales derby loss against Swansea. He played well and was one of Cardiff’s better performers but the lack of possession hampered his chances. He showed an awareness of his defensive responsibilities, tracking back to help his full back out and linked up well with Bellamy, but unfortunately nothing came of that move as Bellamy’s shot thundered off the crossbar. He was replaced by Mutch in the 77th minute. Cardiff lost 3-0.
Sam Johnstone (Doncaster Rovers) – Johnstone made a number of saves in the earlier part of Doncaster’s match away against Brighton and Hove Albion. He was beaten twice within two minutes with around 15 minutes left. The first goal was disallowed but Jose Ulloa’s header was enough for Brighton to secure a 1-0 win.
Marnick Vermijl (NEC Nijmegen) – Vermijl played just 45 minutes as NEC suffered their first defeat of the year away at Feyenoord. They took an early lead but Feyenoord came back with two goals to make the half time score 2-1. Vermijl was substituted off due to an injury at half time. Feyenoord then dominated the second half and won the match 5-1.
Angelo Henriquez (Real Zaragoza) – Henriquez was an unused substitute in Real Zaragoza’s 1-0 loss to Lugo.
Bébé (Paços de Ferreira) – Bébé played the full match in Paços 3-0 defeat to Porto. Porto were handed the lead after a shot from Herrera deflected off Bébé’s knee onto the arm of Seri at close range. The referee awarded a penalty which Porto converted. The second half was an even affair but two later goals in the 87th and 91st minutes made the result flatter Porto.
Jack Rudge (Torquay United) – Rudge’s Torquay United debut was delayed as their match against Bury was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Kieran O’Hara (Trafford) – O’Hara didn’t feature this weekend as Trafford’s match against Rushall Olympic was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
