PICTURE: Manchester United’s players are as much to blame as David Moyes

Manchester United’s performance against Fulham was another nail in this season’s coffin for David Moyes’ side as more dropped points at home sees us nine points behind fourth placed Liverpool.

On the day, United were atrociously one-dimensional with our crosses, we attempted 81 in total, and Moyes’ tactics were lambasted but as much as he was at fault for them, the buck doesn’t stop with Moyes – our players are equally as fault for what happened on the day.

Take this situation involving Juan Mata and Rafael where the Brazilian decided to launch a cross in instead of giving it to Mata who was in acres of space on the edge of the box.

Why would he not pass to Mata? Moyes’ tactics may well have been to cross the ball but United players are seasoned professionals, they should be able to make a quick decision to get the best out of any scenario.

This season, United’s players have not been performing for the club. There are a select few such as Wayne Rooney, Adnan Januzaj and Darren Fletcher who have all had good years but so many just haven’t given enough to this season.

Somebody needs to take it into his own hands and grab this season by the scruff of the neck like Rooney and Januzaj have done at times. Somebody has to lead by example and in a scenario like this, use some initiative and creativity to bring a fresh dimension to United going forward.

Against Arsenal on Wednesday night, we can’t afford to let opportunities like this pass us by and we simply have to be more creative in front of goal. Tactics aside, that all relies on our players and whether they can perform.
