PICTURE: Rooney looks chirpy as Manchester United make their way to Arsenal

Manchester United last night made their way down to London ahead of their crucial tie against Arsenal at the Emirates.

There were a few smiles among the players on the train platform, noticeably Wayne Rooney, but right now there isn’t much happiness at Old Trafford.

The club is in the middle of its worst period of form for years and although games against Arsenal usually have a lot of spice to them, United don’t usually visit them while sitting in 7th place in the Premier League.

Ryan Giggs’ memorable moment T-shirt has been reduced to £9.99 for today only.

United go into the game off the back of a demoralising draw against Fulham while Arsenal are a wounded animal after a 5-1 demolition thanks to Liverpool, so both teams have a point to prove.

For Arsenal, they don’t want to crumble as they usually do in the run-in but for United, it is about stopping this season exploding into full-blown crisis mode. A win and we will be six points off fourth spot if Liverpool lose to Fulham but we could be as far as 12 points away from the Champions League places if we can’t muster together a win.

There have been a lot of times where a game against Arsenal was crucial for United over the years but not usually in such desperate circumstances as this.
