Cesc Fabregas admits he is surprised Juan Mata moved to Manchester United

Cesc Fabregas is surprised that Juan Mata moved to Manchester United because of how prolific he had been for Chelsea in the past two years.

United fans were in exactly the same boat as Fabregas after the signing was complete as nobody could quite believe we had managed to sign Chelsea’s two-time Player of the Year, especially not halfway through the season, but we did.

The pair would be playing together in a United shirt if Fabregas had decided to move from Barcelona but it wasn’t to be as he chose to stay in Spain, unlike Mata who made the move from Stamford Bridge.

“I was surprised to see Juan move there,” Fabregas told the BBC.

“I think he has been Chelsea’s best player over the last two years.

“He’s produced some amazing performances as they won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup and he scored in the final of the European Championship with Spain.”

Mata and Fabregas are both expected to be part of the Spain squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and it will be good to see Mata in action now that he is a United player.

If Spain can hold onto their title, we will have a World Cup winner in the squad for the 2014/15 Premier League season but hopefully Mata won’t go the same way as Kleberson.
