Phil Jones named in world’s best Under-21 XI alongside Paul Pogba by Teens Digest

Phil Jones has been named as a centre back in a world’s best Under 21 XI by Teens Digest alongside the likes of Paul Pogba, Neymar and Isco.

The 21-year-old was chosen alongside Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane as the centre back pairing.

Given that Jones has hardly played at centre back as he has had to play wherever David Moyes has chosen to use him, more often than not in central midfield, his inclusion is a bit of a surprise but it is a sign of things to come from Jones.

With Nemanja Vidic leaving in the summer and Rio Ferdinand looking like he will leave too, now is the chance for Jones to step into the centre back role on a permanent basis and become the world-class defender his potential has promised so far.

He’s great as an emergency midfielder and is decent cover for right-back but there is no question that central defence is where Jones’ future lies.

Touted as future captain of both club and country, next year could be the time where Jones really starts to fulfil his potential and become one United’s most important players.
