Olympiacos winger Joel Campbell, who is on loan from Arsenal, revealed that Manchester United were interested in signing him before he moved to the North London club back in 2011.
The 21-year-old had the better of Patrice Evra all evening in Athens and scored a wondergoal that sealed United’s 2-0 fate with, what has to be said, a fine finish from the edge of the box that David de Gea had no chance of saving.
Speaking ahead of the game against United, Campbell revealed Sir Alex Ferguson’s interest in him but insisted it was a move that was never going to happen.
“As soon as Arsenal came, I wanted to join them and I believe I am ready to play for Arsenal next season,” Campbell said according to the Metro.
“I know I have the capacity to play there. I am only waiting for the opportunity. With hard work I know I can get there.
“United showed an interest in me when I was moving to Europe but I have been an Arsenal fan since I was a child and that’s why I chose them.”
