Brazilian midfielder who dreamt of move to Manchester United rules out transfer

Cruzeiro midfielder Everton Ribeiro has ruled out a move away from Brazil and insisted that the time for speculation linking him with clubs including Manchester United is over.

The 24-year-old, who was named Player of the Year in the Brazilian league last season, continuously talked up a move to Manchester United during January.

Ribeiro said it would be a dream to move to Old Trafford, insisted he would turn down Real Madrid for Manchester United, that he could play in any midfield position and his representatives said preliminary talks with United had happened – the only thing missing was a picture of him in a United shirt on Intagram.

Despite the unrelenting charm offensive, David Moyes did not make a move for him and Ribeiro has said he is now focused solely on Cruzeiro.

“The time for speculation is over,” he told UOL.

“I am now focusing on my games and improving so everything works out.”

Ribeiro is now involved in the Copa Libertadores where Cruzeiro are currently top of their group after two games.

There is every chance that when the summer comes around, Ribeiro will once again try to woo Moyes into buying him but for now, the Brazilian looks to have stopped his pursuit of a move to Old Trafford.
