Manchester United’s Italian target admits desire to play in the Premier League

Cagliari defender Davide Astori has admitted he is attracted to the prospect of a move to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester United in January after David Moyes watched Cagliari lose 4-1 to Juventus from the stands but nothing materialised past speculation.

Cagliari’s coach admitted he was worried that Astori might move to Old Trafford and now that he has revealed a desire to play in the Premier League, the possibility of a move away has certainly increased.

“I am very attracted to the Premier League,’ Astori told Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“It’s a beautiful league with many great teams. I would like to play there certainly.”

Astori has played 23 times for Cagliari this season and has won man of the match on three occasions, including their 3-0 win over Udinese this weekend in which Astori kept a clean sheet and grabbed an assist.

With Nemanja Vidic’s departure confirmed and Rio Ferdinand’s likely to follow, United will be left with only three first team centre backs in Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling, so David Moyes will more than likely bring in at least one centre back in the summer.
