SC Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter has welcomed Manchester United’s interest in him and admitted he is thrilled and honoured by it.
David Moyes watched the 20-year-old in action this weekend according to The Mirror and would have been impressed with his performance as he helped Freiburg keep a clean sheet away from home.
“If this really should be so, I am thrilled and honoured,” Ginter told Bild when questioned about Manchester United’s interest.
Ginter has earned his first call-up to the Germany squad due to his progress this season and is already reportedly valued at €9 million.
Here is a detailed report on Ginter via Bleacher Report.
Despite only being 20, Ginter already has more than 50 first team appearances and was named Bundesliga’s Under-18s and Under 19-s Player of the Season in consecutive years. He has also represented Germany’s at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 internationals and is now on the cusp of his first senior appearance.
Manchester United are probably going to lose both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand in the summer so it isn’t a surprise to see Moyes taking a look at someone as promising as Ginter who, at 20, is already a very established and experienced defender.
