Moyes’ scouting trip saw France’s Mangala silence Van Persie with impressive performance

David Moyes went jetsetting on another European trip tonight to watch France take on Holland at the Stade de France and there were a host of players on show who he would have been keeping an eye on.

Apart from obviously seeing how Robin van Persie and Patrice Evra got on, Manchester United have been linked with a number of players who were in action.

France winger Antoine Griezmann made his international debut. The 22-year-old didn’t live up to the high standards he has set himself this season but given that it was his first cap, nerves probably played a major part in his performance and a lot is expected of him in the future.

Paul Pogba also once again made Manchester United fans remember what they’re missing but it was Eliaquim Mangala who would have caught Moyes’ eye the most.

The centre-back easily contained the threat of Van Persie and alongside Raphael Varane, he formed a strong centre back partnership that shut Netherlands out.

In the last ten minutes of the game, he thwarted Van Persie with a fantastic interception to cap a fine performance.

Manchester City tried and failed to sign Mangala in the January transfer window but if there was one player who would have caught the eye of Moyes, it was Mangala.
