Last season, William Carvalho played his football on loan at Belgian side Cercle Brugges. This season, he is considered one of the best players in the Portuguese League and has earned himself a place in Portugal’s senior side ahead of the World Cup.
Furthermore, despite the fact he has only made one senior appearance for Portugal, Carvalho was included in a promotional shot unveiling Portugal’s new kit for the World Cup alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe, Raul Meireles and Miguel Veloso.
Not bad for someone who is almost entirely new to the national set-up.
It is a testament to how far Carvalho has come that he was included in the promotional shot and it would be very strange for Portugal to do that unless he was going to be part of the World Cup squad.
Carvalho has gone from obscurity to the limelight in such a short space of time and ahead of what is going to be an interesting summer with United’s interest in him very public knowledge, all eyes will be on Carvalho at the World Cup to see how he copes with football at the highest level.
